Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard has referred multiple intelligence officials for criminal prosecution over leaks that she says are politically motivated efforts to undermine President Trump’s agenda.
Some shit you should know before you read: If you’re unaware, there’s been a shitload of leaks coming out of the Pentagon lately, triggering internal chaos and high-level firings. In recent weeks, three senior political appointees—Dan Caldwell, Colin Carroll, and Darin Selnick—were abruptly fired amid an ongoing investigation into unauthorized disclosures to the press. These leaks reportedly included sensitive internal discussions, private meetings, and even active military plans, which have raised serious national security concerns. The fallout of the leaks has exposed the Pentagon to significant criticism from US lawmakers.

What’s going on now: In response to the leaks, DNI Gabbard confirmed she has taken aggressive legal action, stating, “Today, I referred two intelligence community leakers to the Department of Justice for criminal referral, with a third criminal referral on its way, which includes the recent illegal leak to the Washington Post.” Gabbard added, “Politicization of our intelligence and leaking classified information puts our nation’s security at risk and must end. Those who leak classified information will be found and held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.” She added, “These deep-state criminals leaked classified information for partisan political purposes to undermine President Trump’s agenda. I look forward to working with the Department of Justice and the FBI to investigate, terminate and prosecute these criminals.”
As part of this effort, Gabbard recently launched the Director’s Initiative Group (DIG) — a task force dedicated to restoring transparency and accountability within the intelligence community by investigating internal leaks, exposing politicization, and identifying misconduct such as the unauthorized sharing of classified materials.
This escalation comes as calls intensify for Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to resign following revelations that he shared sensitive military intelligence in unsecured chats. Both Democratic lawmakers and a growing number of Republicans have expressed concern, including Congressman Don Bacon (R-NE), a retired Air Force brigadier general, who said that Secretary Hegseth should be removed from office.
As of now, the White House says the President still has confidence in Secretary Hegseth and has denied reports that it was quietly considering replacing him.
