A dual US-Albanian citizen has been charged with attempting to provide material support to ISIS and distributing bomb-making instructional materials.
What’s the deal: According to prosecutors, Erald Alimehmeti has been charged with attempting to provide material support to ISIS and distributing information about creating explosives. Alimehmeti allegedly used encrypted messaging platforms and social media to plan attacks in support of the terrorist organization, including expressing interest in “DC Sniper” style operations and requesting tactical gear such as ballistic vests and weapons modifications.

Digging into his social media: On social media, Alimehmeti frequently shared pro-ISIS propaganda, including graphic and inflammatory content designed to promote violence. Among his posts was a disturbing video showing the deaths of US Special Forces in Niger, accompanied by a caption in Albanian that read: “The Islamic State in Africa killing crusaders, American and French special forces. Look at how the US special forces scream before they die!!! Hahaha!” He also shared photographs of jihadist publications, including works glorifying suicide operations and manuals on jihad, along with videos depicting violent attacks.
This all comes as the US has intensified its efforts to combat ISIS, with the military conducting an increased number of raids and airstrikes in recent months, primarily targeting the terrorist group’s strongholds in Iraq and Syria. These operations aim to disrupt ISIS’s leadership, logistical networks, and operational capabilities as the organization continues to pose a regional and global threat.
Earlier this month, CENTCOM confirmed that US forces have conducted at least 95 counter-ISIS operations during this period.
