This decision follows Israel’s appeal for the council to condemn Iran’s recent aggressive actions and to classify the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist group. The meeting time was confirmed late Saturday, setting the stage for discussions centered around the recent events.

During an unprecedented attack, Iran launched a barrage of explosive drones and missiles targeting Israeli territory for the first time. This aggressive move by Iran came late on Saturday, heightening tensions and prompting serious international concern. In response, Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations, Gilad Erdan, formally requested an emergency council meeting to address the crisis.

In a communication to the council’s president, Erdan said, “The Iranian attack is a serious threat to global peace and security and I expect the Council to use every means to take concrete action against Iran.”
