A top North Korean official has condemned the recent US airstrikes on Yemen.
Some shit you should know before you read: If you’re unaware, the United States launched a series of strikes on Yemen over the weekend, targeting Houthi-controlled areas in response to the group’s continued attacks on commercial and military ships in the Red Sea. The US argues that these strikes are necessary to protect global shipping routes and deter what it calls Houthi “piracy, violence, and terrorism.” The airstrikes have hit more than 30 locations, including military sites, weapons storage facilities, and infrastructure used by the Houthis, but have also resulted in civilian casualties, with Yemen’s Houthi-run Health Ministry reporting at least 53 killed and 100+ injured. The Houthis claim their attacks on Red Sea shipping are in retaliation for Israel’s blockade of Gaza and vow to continue their military operations until the blockade is lifted. Despite repeated US strikes and threats from President Trump, the group has refused to back down, launching missiles and drones on US warships and Israeli-linked vessels.

What’s going on now: In response to ongoing strikes targeting the Houthis in Yemen, North Korea’s ambassador to Yemen and Egypt, Ma Tong Hui, condemned the United States, calling its actions a “wanton violation of all international laws including the UN Charter” and an “open encroachment upon the sovereignty of another nation that can never be justified.” Speaking through North Korea’s state-run KCNA news agency, Ma accused Washington of “indiscriminately” using military force to pursue its “exclusive and unilateral geopolitical ambition.”
He called on the international community to voice “serious concern and protest against the U.S. hooliganism seriously disturbing regional peace and stability.”
Ma also warned that continued US intervention in Yemen would lead to its “own international isolation” and called for an immediate halt to what he described as the United States “illegal and reckless military actions.” He insisted that the US airstrikes were deliberately targeting civilians and infrastructure and said that such attacks “can never be justified by any means.”
This all comes as President Trump has warned Iran that he will hold them directly responsible for any future attacks carried out by the Houthis in the Red Sea. In a series of statements, Trump made it clear that “every shot fired by the Houthis” would be considered an attack orchestrated by Tehran, vowing that Iran would “suffer the consequences, and those consequences will be dire.” He also accused Iran of continuing to supply the Houthis with weapons and equipment despite Iran claiming they do not.
